Hello everyone!
It's been a good week this week, nothing over the top exciting
happened though, we have met with lots of members and are having fun
working and finding our way around the wonderful town of Stockport.
Elder Lee and I have come to the conclusion that street contacting is
a very ineffective way to find new investigators, so we have decided
to work with members and referrals! It's a curious way to do so, and
the way we are doing it is pretty great. It will take some time, but
'patience is a virtue'. How we are working with members is: when we go
over for a tea appointment (dinner) or just a lesson, we ask for the
names of their friends who are struggling and need a bit of help, and
this is so the members and us missionaries can pray for them
individually. As the days go by and the praying continues, the friends
who need help are constantly on the members minds and they start to
care more and more as well as find opportunities to help. Little
miracles will shine through for the members and the desire to show the
friends the gospel becomes great, and that is where the missionaries
step in. And then we can help them reach salvation! Elder Lee has
tried this in another area and he said that it works wonders! Like I
said before though, it takes some time. I am excited to see great
things brew up here in this area!
Just a few days ago (Sunday) we were at a tea appointment with a
member and after tea we helped with home teaching. It was very
unexpected but we couldn't say no! Haha so we went over to this
family. I set my bag down and my brolly (umbrella) and we taught a
short little lesson, said a prayer, jumped into the car and left. Once
the member dropped us off and drove off; I realized that my back was
really light.... Uh oh, my bag! I left it! It had all my important
stuff. We called to make some arrangements and were told that the
members we home taught would drop it off to us later that night. To
our surprise, their car wouldn't start and we would have to get it on
Monda y evening. That is why I didn't email yesterday. We had no time
to find a computer so it was pretty frustrating. It shall never
happen again.
Mom and family: whoo hoo! Way to go spencer! Finish that Eagle! I'm so
happy to hear that you are getting so close! Work every morning and
night and 'GET 'ER DONE SON!' I'm proud to hear that. Mom! I am well
and enjoying my new area. I think I am getting the package because it
arrived at Wigan the day I left... So Elder Tate is going to send it
to me!! :) haha home videos are so funny! I wish I was watching them!
Love,
Elder Nichols
Hello everyone!
I love Stockport!!! This has been one
of the funnest weeks of my
mission! Good things will happen
here! We have already had some quite
funny experiences with people,
traveling, and so on. Just the other
day we were in our companion study
and the lights were on, then all
the sudden we hear a small beeping
coming from the general direction
of the front door. We tried to figure
out what it was, but no dice so
we went back and studied, when all of
the sudden all the lights go
off... Oh no, we forgot to pay the
electric bill!! So we went on an
adventure to buy some electricity in
town. Haha it was funny. Our flat
is one of the very few that use an
electricity stick for lights and so
on (the mission office is working on
fixing it) but we had no idea
because we have been White Washed
into the area!
Our sense of direction is no where to
be found, just the other day we
went out for the last hour of street
contacting for the night and
started walking and talking. We
finally decided that we needed to get
home, but we had no map!! We got so
very lost and eventually found our
way.. It was crazy fun!
I love my new companion! He is super
funny, but he knows how to play
hard and work hard in the times that
are needed. He is from Orange
County, California and he is amazing!
Mom and Family: thank you so much for
your emails! Mom and dad that
trip sounds like a Royal blast of
fun! I have a little something for
Derek!!! Yyyyyooouuu had a birthday
shout hurray, I'd like to sing to
you today (in another country ;) )
one year older and wiser too....
Hhhhhaaaapppyyy birthday... To YOU!!!
Happy birthday Derek! 22!!! I
love you so much and have a brilliant
day! Mom I still do not know
anything about the package you sent
me because I am in another area, I
hope the package can get to me
somehow :) I love your u all and miss
you too!
Love,
Elder Nichols
My dear friends and family,
First off I love you all! You are all
so incredible and have taught me
so much without me even realising it
till now! I have had a great
week! This transfer is the week has
been the hardest working transfer
in my life and it has started to pay
off, it has been one of those
moments where you work so hard that
in the end the immediate rewards
go to someone else and you leave
somewhere else... Yes I am leaving
the wonderful area of Wigan and I
will be moving to a place called
Stockport in the Manchester Zone! My
new companion is named Elder Lee
and I have no idea who he is! Anyway,
Elder Tate and I have found and
set dates for 2 new and solid
investigators! Elder Tate will do great
with his new companion in Wigan.
Just yesterday we had a lesson with a
reactivated member named Glyn,
he has been coming to church for four
times and is loving it all over
again. We showed him the Mormon
message about "Temples are a Beacon".
In the video President Monson makes a
statement, "No sacrifice is too
great, no price too heavy, no
struggle too difficult, in order to
receive those blessings." He
goes on to say "As you and I go to the
holy houses of God, as we remember
the covenants we make within, we
will be more able to bear every trial
and to overcome each temptation.
In this sacred sanctuary we will find
peace; we will be renewed and
fortified". I love this quote,
and I hope to apply it more so here on
the mission. As we taught Glyn the
lesson I felt the spirit so
strongly that I knew all was well and
that everything will be fine. As
I make righteous choices, temptation
will flee from me. As I stay
focused and am standing in holy
places then I will have peace and
comfort. Let us all use and apply
this advise and we will then in
return receive the promised blessings
that come from it!
Mom and Family: first things first,
mom that package you sent me will
probably have a hard time getting to
me and that's even if they decide
to deliver it because of the size.
Please next time, send it to the
mission office and only send letters
to my flat address. Thanks! I'm
sure it will work out just fine. The
weather is cold and is getting
colder each day. Yesterday and
Saturday we got a little bit of snow!
My leg is starting to come back! It's
brilliant! I am starting to feel
pain and temp!! I am so happy!! I'm
glad you saw grandma! Tell her I
love and miss her! Same with Bro.
Byers! I would love to get his
email! Could you help with that? I am
glad grandma Z. Is doing well as
well as g & g Longhurst! Rachel
has moved out?!?! Matt has a
girlfriend?! I want his email as
well!!! Ask him to email me! Teal and
JJ!! I love them so much!!
I must be off!! Love you all so
much!!
Sincerely,
Elder Nichols
